Happy Thanksgiving from Ginger Christ!

Holidays are all about great food–everyone knows that. And this Thanksgiving, Ginger Christ, the super sassy and delightfully demented cooking show host, has served up a whopping feast of horror in her Thanksgiving Special! Directed by Alex Napiwocki and costarring a group of hilarious misfits (and a certain critter…), Thanksgiving is transformed into an absolute scream with their Ginger Christ holiday horror series.

I love bizarre horror, and as soon as I watched Ginger Christ’s Halloween and now Thanksgiving Specials, I’m sold. It’s weird, super twisted and will either make you die laughing or turn off the show in disgust! But if you do that, well, then you’re no damn fun. Hey, I’ve been meaning to ask, do you know anyone named Jennifer?

It’s been some time since we’ve had an update, but for great reason, I assure you. I’m excited to announce that LAHorror.com’s first feature film, “2 Jennifer,” has wrapped principle photography and is on slate for completion in August! It’s been a wild ride putting this film together, and fans of murder, violence and horrifying GORE will not be disappointed! “2 Jennifer” is a hard “R” rated sequel to our good friend James Cullen Bressack’s 2013 film, “To Jennifer.” You can read our review of his film here.

“Two filmmakers attempt to make the perfect sequel to “To Jennifer,” however a dark secret threatens the lives of everyone involved. Jennifer, a beautiful actress, now has two options: become the heroine of the film, or face a brutal death.”

Our good friends at Dread Central dropped our first official teaser trailer, and we wanted to share as well! So WATCH it, SHARE it, and get ready for a really NASTY movie.

“2 Jennifer” stars Hunter Johnson, David Coupe and Lara Jean Mummert. The film also features performances from “To Jennifer” alums James Cullen Bressack, Jarrett Furst & Jody Barton, Felissa Rose (“Sleepaway Camp”), Veronica Ricci (“Bloody Mary 3D”), Erin Marie Hogan (“House of Manson”), Charles Chudabala, Josh Brown and Matt Holbrook. The film is Produced by Johnson, Bressack, Furst, Frank Merle, Christian Ackerman & Megan Perrin.

LA Horror Review: “You Are Not Alone”

God bless America, and God bless HORROR!

Writer/Director Derek Mungor, the filmmaker behind LAHorror.com favorite “Desolation Wilderness,” is back with another creeper, “You Are Not Alone.” This is a super beautiful film is about friendship, memories and revisiting old times…oh yeah, and a totally freaky serial killer. It’s a genuine slice of life turned hyper suspenseful slasher movie, shot entirely from the prospective of one character. The film is co-written by Chris O’Brien.

Natalie is a college graduate visiting her hometown over the 4th of July. The night she arrives, she is stalked by a sociopathic killer.

I always love it when horror movies have a nice slow burn, but it makes me really hope that the filmmakers pull it off in the end. Mungor and his team knock this one out of the park. “You Are Not Alone” is one of the scariest serial killer slashers I have ever seen. It takes advantage of your perception, aided by sincere and welcoming performances by a fun and likable cast and makes you feel as if you’re truly living as one of the characters in the film. This both adds to it’s unique charm and also amplifies the horror when things get rough. And when sometimes slasher movies get caught up in narrative and over explanation, “You Are Not Alone” takes a much different approach. The film isn’t exactly about why these killings are happening, but moreso about the events themselves. It’s the best type of slasher film: one that respects its audience and simply shows you the events of one tragic July 4th weekend.

Do yourself a favor and watch this one with ALL of the lights turned off. I mean that. Hats off to Mungor and Director of Photography Ryan Glover for creating what seemed like constant suspense and anticipation, primarily through the use of light and shadow. A great look accompanied by an amazing score by Jason Aud and some ultra creepy sound design by Jason Neumann, this film is incredibly intense…I cannot emphasize that enough. “You Are Not Alone” is the type of slasher that had me at the edge of my seat, jumping at every turn, and when you see it, chances are you will be too.

And on a side note, it’s really great to see a 4th of July horror movie. I can honestly say that this film has potential to be a once a year favorite for the BBQ holiday, much in the same way that other holiday horror favorites have found spots in our hearts. This movie pays homage to a lot of greats before it, yet it never loses itself. Die hard slasher movie fans, get ready for some fireworks, and remember…”You Are Not Alone.”

Emily Eden Films & LAHorror.com Present: “The Chronicles of Ruth”

Horror lovers! I couldn’t be more excited to announce that LAHorror.com is teaming up with Emily Eden Films & visionary Writer/Director Brialynn Massie to Co-Produce / Co-Star in an amazing new Web Series called “The Chronicles of Ruth” (#TCOR)! This is a project that I’m extremely excited about, and if you’re into HORROR, POSSESSION, HELLFIRE & more, then you should be pretty damn excited too!

“How do you save someone from Hell when you can’t even save yourself?”

#TCOR follows “Ruth,” a young teen who struggles with depression, leading her astray into hell, and her journey to escape this darkness to warn her family of the impending apocalypse. It’s one of the most ORIGINAL and EPIC horror scripts I have read in quite some time, Bria Lynn Massie has really created a really special story and assembled a cast that is incredibly talented and diverse, including Chris Kato, Jocelyn Watts, Bobbie Lee, Chris Pardal, and Daniele De Leggia, to name just a few. We need your help getting #TCOR produced!

This is a story that’s extremely accessible to horror fans of all types. What initially attracted me to this project was not only the scope and depth of the characters, but the real nasty horror elements that prevail throughout. Whenever I read a horror script, there’s nothing that I love more than the moments that can make even me cringe, and #TCOR is full of them! This is a seriously ambitious project but I have no doubt that with this cast & creative team the product will be incredible! Here’s a small glimpse into the madness that we’re going to create…

There are a lot of fundraising campaigns out there, and this is one that you should strongly consider backing. We’re a young, hungry and enthusiastic team set out to create an epic horror drama, filled with SCARES and CARNAGE, but also filled with inspiration and heart. Slasher Studios is Bringing a Christmas to Dismember!

I know it’s only July, but it’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas. The presents, the love of family and friends, the stockings, and of course the bloody, gory MURDERS! At least that’s what Slasher Studios has in store for their second feature film, “Dismembering Christmas,” which is in it’s critical last weeks of it’s kickstarter campaign!

We are major fans of what these guys do, not only because of their die-hard love for all things slasher, but because they’re unbelievably engaging with fans and encourage everyone to get involved in the slasher fun. Open auditions to the public, fan contests to create their poster designs, as well as a lot of unique and awesome kickstarter rewards for backers, including but not limited to the first ever Slasher Studios Blu Rays, weapons from the film, IMDB credits and even the opportunity to put your own original art in the movie itself.

We were big fans of their short flick “Teddy” and their debut feature film “Don’t Go to the Reunion” and now their back, teaming up with director Austin Bosely, to film what Kevin Sommerfield (writer, producer) calls “the most grisly script Slasher Studios has ever written.” We had a chance to catch up with Kevin and Austin and discuss this film that will be shooting in Wisconsin early next year! LAHorror: First of all, I have to ask what you guys are asking for for Christmas this year??

Austin Bosely: A ticket to Wisconsin.

Kevin Sommerfield: Lots and lots of slasher movies. The same thing that’s been on my wish list since I was 7.

LAHorror: “Dismembering Christmas” is joining a group of awesome slashers that take place around the holidays. What are some of your favorite holiday horror flicks?

KS: The original “Black Christmas” is one of my all time favorite slashers. “Silent Night Deadly Night” is a hell of a lot of fun as well. For guilty pleasures, definitely “Jack Frost” and “Santa’s Slay.”

LAHorror: Why did you decide to write a Christmas slasher Kevin? How long has this been in the works??

KS: I started writing “Dismembering Christmas” with Steve Goltz (co-writer) late last year, actually right around Christmas time. We always wanted to see a “Friday the 13th” film set around the winter season. Fun characters, wintery deaths, etc. This film captures that same spirit while adding the atmosphere of the holiday season.

LAHorror: Adding a different type of holiday cheer, no doubt.

AB: Holiday fear.*

LAHorror: Austin, when did you come on board? I love your style, your short film “Tahorror” was badass. What is your game plan when looking at a script like this?

AB: I came on board only a few weeks ago, actually. Just before initial casting closed. I read the script a couple weeks before I was on board to direct and I really enjoyed it. It definitely has a wintery “Friday the 13th” vibe to it and I couldn’t be more excited to bring that across in the final product. If it does, it’s gonna be a lot of fun.

LAHorror: Kevin, your flicks always have some great slasher deaths, what kind of GORE can “Dismembering Christmas” viewers hope for in their stockings??

KS: All deaths are somehow connected to either the winter season or Christmas itself. Lots of carnage from beginning to end with each death hopefully topping the ones that come before it.

LAHorror: How about your final girl, Kelli Anderson? Is she tough enough to handle this killer??

AB: Oh yes.      I mean…who said she’s the final girl?

KS: She’s going to be a fighter and someone the audience is definitely going to want to root for. That is if she makes it to the end…

LAHorror: Since you finished up “Don’t Go To The Reunion,” how do you feel heading into your second feature slasher film?

KS: I’m really proud of this script and I’m loving the cast and crew we have lined up. With Austin’s unique vision, I think this is going to end up being Slasher Studios’ best yet.

LAHorror: I totally forgot, your fan created posters are awesome!! Slasher Studios is super engaging with their fans, which is great.

KS: Thanks! We try to involve everyone. I mean we wouldn’t be making movies without the support of the slasher community. Horror is a family first and foremost. It is also a family that I am honored to be a part of.

LA Horror Review: “The Campground”

One of the most unique parts about the horror genre, and slasher films in particular, is the charm that they bring to the table no matter the scope or size of the film. No genre has such dedication from fans around the world than horror, and a lot of that is because young filmmakers aren’t afraid to throw their hats in the ring and create their own horror stories for other gore lovers to enjoy. Roman Jossart’s debut feature film,“The Campground,” is a perfect example of a horror fan becoming a horror creator, in a film that creates its own slasher that has no problem terrorizing a group of partying teens.

The legend goes like this…

In 1980, ten-year-old Charlie Varsin was taken into an abandoned campground by his mother to celebrate his birthday. His mother had other plans, however, brutally stabbing the child seven times to the face and six to the chest and heart. Now, 30 years later, a group of partying teens have chosen the old campground to celebrate a birthday of their own, not knowing that Charlie Varsin still lurks about, seeking revenge on anyone that gets in his path. His weapon, of course, is the same rusty screwdriver…used by his mother…only this time it’s Charlie who is dishing out the fatal blows.

Sure, it’s a familiar sounding story, but who cares; this is an uber-campy 80s style slasher movie. The execution does leave a bit to be desired, as there are some head scratching moments and some inexperienced actors, but just by looking at my collection of slasher films, many of my favorites are guilty of the same. And that’s fine. A movie like “The Campground” is made by and for slasher lovers, so casual horror viewers or film perfectionists probably aren’t the target audience anyways. “The Campground” could easily be a gem of some horror lover’s collection down the road.

The standout of this film is actor/writer/director Roman Jossart. His performance is easily the best and most natural, and you have to admire somebody who had a vision, went for it and made it happen. While “The Campground” does have its problems, it’s easy to see the potential and possibilities of things to come for this group of filmmakers. It will be fun to watch these guys hone their craft and create more slasher disgustingness.

I will say this: “The Campground” did keep me entertained and managed to have a pretty high body count for a film that runs just under an hour. I can’t say that it’s the greatest slasher I’ve ever seen, but it’s definitely a quality, complete debut for a fresh group of young filmmakers. So take it for what it is. If you’re a fan of campy, ultra low budget slasher nastiness, then get your ass to “The Campground”! Charlie will be happy you did…
